Dorn Therapy
Dorn Therapy has its origin in Germany. This technique of spinal re-adjustment and re-balancing was developed by a farmer, Dieter Dorn. Whilst fairly new to Australia there are a growing number of practitioners who incorporate this unique type of spinal work in their practice.
Dorn spinal therapy is a gentle therapy. It is utilised on the spine and joints. The first test is generally on the leg length. This may involve adjustment of ankle, knee or hip joints. Any difference is corrected by easy techniques to bring back the joints into their correct positions. Now that the legs are balanced, the hip is the next area to check. It is examined for any twist or scoliotic appearance. Once the persons 'base' is balanced, the spine then gets examined.
Displaced vertebrae are brought back into place by the pressure of the thumb on the vertebrae of the spine. The key ingredient to this procedure is movement. The patient moves their arms or legs, (depending on which area is being worked on), in a swinging motion. This movement relaxes the muscles so the vertebrae can slip back into position. With this therapy tendons and ligaments are not stretched or overstretched; they adapt after a very short time and support the muscles to keep the vertebrae in position.
The treatment is gentle with no risks of spinal injury because there is no cracking or abrupt movements.
Many problems such as headaches, dizziness, ear and / or eye problems can be the result of nerve pressure in the cervical area of the spine. Specific work on the neck utilising the Dorn method, can quickly bring mal-aligned vertebrae back into their correct position with little discomfort and no risk of cervical injury.
